Maogong stone is also called Maojiang stonecommonly known as “Maokong stone”. The appearance of this rock looks like a honeycomb, so it is also called honeycomb rock. Under such a combination of rock properties, the softer minerals may eventually be erodeddug out by oxidation, running water, windwavesbiological erosion, thus leaving behind the harder part to form the most special weathering phenomenon in Penghu basalt. At present, Maogong stones are most commonly seen in the sea sides of Tongpan IsletHujing Islet in South Sea,Gupo IsletTiezhenyu in North Sea. Each has its own characteristic.
